Abstract. Let M be a closed, oriented 3-manifold. Suppose S^1 X M admits a symplectic form. Then, does M fiber over S^1? I will talk about joint work with Clifford H. Taubes on how one can go about proving an affirmative answer to this question using Seiberg-Witten Floer homology. In particular, I will
show how to prove that the answer to this question is ``Yes'' when M has first Betti number equal to 1 and S^1 X M has non-torsion canonical class. |
